GWN is the perfect construction partner for hotel projects in the UK. Meticulous attentention to detail, industry leading sound proofing and accelerated project times are just some of the features that have made GWN the main contractors preferred choice for SFS, partitions and drywall.

GWN’s product knowledge consistetly reduces project cost by 10-15% thanks to value engineering expertise and its close relationship with suppliers.

GWN Contracts have completed over 20 hotel projects over the past 10 years. Notably Premier Travel Inns, Travelodges. We started in 2001 with South Oxley Travelogde and most recently in Bury with the a new Premier Inn.

Our most recent working collaboration was throughout the construction of a new 115 bed,Premier Inn Hotel, including a restaurant and Costa Coffee area, in Bury, Greater Manchester. Both buildings were constructed concurrently, alongside extensive external works, to form ASK Development’s ‘Knowsley Place Development’.

GWN worked alongside all other members of the construction and design process to achieve a successful completion to the project. We were informed by Premier Inn representatives, whilst undertaking theagreed client inspections on the project, that the rooms were some of the best ever inspected. This led to the hotel being handed over to Premier Inn snag free.

Due to being located beside a well trafficked railway, the hotel in bury required extremely stringent and robust acoustic detailing. An example of this is the external wall specification detailing both resilient bar and three layers of sound block plaster board. To meet Premier Inn’s well documented high level of acoustic requirements, strict adherence to an agreed QA sign off process was required. Each room had 8No inspections, carried out by both GWN and EWC Management, throughout every stage/layer of GWN’s wall/ceiling installation.

As part of the Blackpool BSF scheme, GWN under Eric Wright Construction are working with architects Nightingale Assoicates on this exciting and innovative learning space.

The new facilities will comprise of both new accommodation, and the refurbishment of existing buildings.

This innovative design was commissioned from Nightingale Associates, and will see the amalgamation of both primary and secondary within a single footprint. The Bishop of Lancaster celebrated a Mass to bless the start of the building work at St Mary’s Catholic College on Tuesday 8th February 2011. Children and guests were invited to a mass within the school chapel and a sod cutting ceremony took place in the School Grounds. The Bishop blessed the ground and cut the first turf where the new Sports’ Hall will be built.

The new building is part of the Building Schools for the Future programme and will see a new 11-18 Catholic College re-built on this iconic site. The contract also includes new premise for Christ the King Primary School and a new Church for the Christ the King Parish.

GWN finished it’s work (£1.3m) in 20 weeks. 20 weeks ahead of schedule!

Work on Furness College’s £41m campus transformation started last year. The iconic new building should be ready for students and staff on the Channelside campus in 2012. The revamp of the existing Learning Resource Centre and creation of Multi Use Sports Area (MUGA) should be complete by 2013. After intense competition Furness College was one of only 14 Further Education colleges to secure funding – the sum of £32m – from the Learning and Skills Council.

Broadway Malyan had designed the building and Eric Wright Construction Ltd is the main contractor. This campus will house world-class facilities including brand new learning suites complete with the latest technology, equipment for all vocational areas, business training, student social areas, new restaurant and hair and beauty salons.

GWN were tasked by Eric Wright to install ceilings, plastering, partitions and ornate bulkheads at Booths Supermarket in Penrith. High-tech, innovative technologies have been used in the design of Penrith’s Booths store to ensure the building has minimal impact on the environment. The Penrith store, which opens in November, will feature a heat recovery system – which collects heat from the fridges to provide hot tap water and under-floor heating. This highly innovative system considerably reduces the store’s natural gas consumption. Penrith’s Booths will be the retailer’s fourth store to use a highly advanced refrigeration system that uses a low-impact natural refrigerant which replaces traditional greenhouse gas refrigerants. The use of this natural refrigerant, is currently used in less than five per cent of the UK’s supermarkets.

There will also be glass doors on the fridges that will keep the food fresh and provides a 45 per cent saving on energy. And the voltage within the store will be carefully monitored so that a consistent 220 volts is maintained – meaning excessive power is not wasted. Rain water will be collected in underground tanks and used to flush toilets as well as operating washing machines.

Graham Booth said: “Booths feels strongly about the need to be sustainable in what we do and the environmental impact of our buildings is extremely important.”

This University project consisted of specialist dental teaching rooms, lecture theatre, administration offices and ancillary spaces.

The new building was constructed on a live campus, with very tight timescales to deliver the new facility within budget and in time for the new academic year. An excellent relationship developed with the contractor and design team, allowing the project to be completed safely with minimum disruption to the university and students. The project also included the use of lead lined plasterboard for x-ray purposes.

The bonding of lead to plasterboard produces a panel particularly suited to dry lining partitions. It can be installed as an inner layer where fire rating is required or as a smooth finished surface to receive a plaster skim coat and final decoration. GWN used lead lined plasterboard supplied by Wardray Premise.

Bolton One is a state of the art, mixed-use, health, leisure and educational facility. The vision for Bolton One is a centre that brings together a special combination of facilities to improve everyone’s health and fitness. GWN is involved with SFS, partitioning and ceilings. Bolton One will include:

Health Facilities: GP, Walk in Centre, diagnostics and community health services

Leisure Facilities: Swimming pool, hydrotherapy, fitness suite sports hall and climbing

Teaching and Research Facilities: Clinical skills laboratory facilities, sports injury facilities, rehabilitation suite and test running track

This project will be completed to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The Co-location Fund was set up to support capital investment in joined-up facilities and is delivered by Partnerships for Schools. Within Bolton One this contribution totalled a massive £1.5m and will ensure that premiere facilities are available to the whole Bolton community.

Other Co-location projects include development of facilities for children and young people’s services, including children’s centres; careers advice; youth clubs; health services, including mental health, drug and alcohol treatment centres; family support services; Combined Cadet Force facilities; and independent housing for young people leaving care to help their transition into longer-term, more permanent accommodation. The funding is adding value to other sources of capital funding including BSF and Primary Capital programmes, NHS LIFT investment and regeneration funding.

The Bolton One construction works, which started in October 2009, have maintained a breathtaking pace and are currently 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The impressive scale of Bolton One has seen it takes its place among othe key buildings in the Bolton Town Centre Skyline and will be completed and open in 2012.

GWN was contracted to Interserve to implement the Metframe system and metal roof at the Women’s and Children’s services at Royal Bolton Hospital in order to become a centre of excellence for the surrounding area. Services to be provided in the new facility include: Specialist services for children e.g. diabetes, asthma, epilepsy; Outpatients; Day case surgery; In-patient surgery; General surgery; Accident and emergency services; Child and Adolescent mental health services; Antenatal and postnatal care; Neonatal intensive care; Gynaecology.

GWN were part of Interserves team of contractors that received praise from the trust……..

The Royal Bolton Hospital has congratulated construction company, Interserve, after they were praised following a routine inspection. The company has been recognised for its efforts to minimise disruption whilst working on £20 million improvements to the maternity, neonatal and children’s units. Considerate Constructors, an independent body which aims to improve the image of the construction industry, visited the hospital in May. They noted that regular dialogue between hospital staff and the contractor, Interserve, was a key factor in reducing the impact of the work on patients, visitors and staff.

Project Managers responsible for the £20 million building work underway on improved facilities for pregnant women, babies and children have worked closely with Interserve to ensure progress is made, whilst respecting the hospital’s day-to-day activity. Construction staff scored highly as ‘good neighbours’ as a result, in the report, which also highlighted Interserve’s maintained commitment to on-site safety.

Metframe is a light-gauge, cold-roll formed, galvanised steel structural framing system that is ideal for use in a wide variety of medium rise superstructures. The Metframe system is ideal for projects where the speed of construction and / or a lightweight frame is required and provides the stability and integrity required without the need for a steel or concrete primary frame.

RE: GWN DRY LINING LTD

I write in reference to the aforementioned contractor’s performance whilst undertaking subcontract works on projects that I have managed to date.

Our most recent working collaboration was throughout the construction of a new Six Town Housing Office Building and a six storey, 115 bed, Premier Inn Hotel, including a restaurant and Costa Coffee area, in Bury, Greater Manchester. Both buildings were constructed concurrently, alongside extensive external works, to form ASK Development’s ‘Knowsley Place Development’.

GWN worked alongside all other members of the construction and design process to achieve a successful completion to the project. We were informed by Premier Inn representatives, whilst undertaking our agreed client inspections on the project, that the rooms were some of the best ever inspected.

To be sure of achieving success on the project, their Mr P Grundy – Director in charge, visited the site regularly to ensure the works were carried out as per the design criteria and that the construction programme was adhered to. GWN also liaised with our own design department to ensure buildability and cost efficient solutions to any potential concerns over design.

I have no hesitation in recommending GWN to prospective clients. I have found them to be helpful, driven and professional, whilst maintaining high standards of quality. They have added value to every project they have undertook under my management.

The Christie is already one of the largest cancer centres in Europe. It’s a leader in research in the UK and abroad. The development will significantly increase the capacity to deliver chemotherapy treatment, expand early phase clinical trials and provide a new private patient unit.

GWN as a main sub-contractor for SFS and internal partitions has delivered the project ahead of programme and on budget, helping Interserve successfully achieving the Trust’s objectives for the scheme.
